Iran supports peace initiatives on Ukraine

DUBAI, July 31. /TASS/. The Iranian authorities welcome all initiatives aimed at political settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, including the relevant talks planned in Saudi Arabia, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanani Chafi said.

"We welcome all actions and initiatives that will make it possible to reach a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis," the Fars news agency quoted the diplomat as commenting on information about peace talks expected in early August in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

On July 29, the Wall Street Journal quoted sources as saying that Saudi Arabia plans to hold peace talks on Ukraine in Jeddah on August 5-6. According to the newspaper, key officials from 30 countries will attend the meeting. However, Russia has not been invited. The EU, the UK, Poland and South Africa have already confirmed their participation in the consultations, and White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan is also expected to attend the meeting.
