The young man was allegedly convinced that by sharing classified documents he was informing and educating his friends

WASHINGTON, April 14. /TASS/. US citizen Jack Douglas Teixeira, suspected of leaking classified documents of the US Department of Defense, found the hostilities in Ukraine to be 'depressing,' the Washington Post reported.

The newspaper interviewed acquaintances of the 21-year old man, who were familiar with the documents that Teixeira had shared on an online chat platform, Discord. One of them said that Teixeira, who is a member of the US Air National Guard, started publishing secret documents approximately in February 2022, shortly after the Russian special operation in Ukraine began.

One of the friends said Teixeira saw the military action between Russian and Ukrainian forces as "depressing," because the "two countries that should have more in common than keeping them apart."

The young man was allegedly convinced that by sharing classified documents he was informing and educating his friends.

An earlier report by The Washington Post said, with reference to Teixeira’s friends, that he was not taking sides in the conflict.

Some of the leaked documents were related to West’s plans on training Ukrainian forces for a counter-offensive. Others allegedly revealed information about arms supplies to the Kiev government and the current state of the Ukraineian air defense network.

Teixeira was detained on Thursday. The Pentagon said it would assess the leak’s impact on the national security of the United States and analyze the existing procedures of access to classified information.
