Prestige of US security services comes under threat due to classified data leak — report

According to the report, the leak could weaken Ukraine by divulging what the US and NATO know about the Russian military, its plans and capabilities

MADRID, April 11. /TASS/. The prestige of US special services has been called into question following the leak of classified US documents, the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia reported on Tuesday.

The report said the authority of the US intelligence service has come under threat as the leak is of the same magnitude as the WikiLeaks disclosures 10 years ago. The newspaper also said that some of Washington’s allies have started to express concern and bewilderment over the incident.

According to the report, the leak could weaken Ukraine by divulging what the US and NATO know about the Russian military, its plans and capabilities. The newspaper said the US intelligence service seems as water tight as a strainer as an investigation into the authenticity and extent of the leak is ongoing.

Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh earlier said that the US Department of Defense is looking into the authenticity of the documents that are circulating on the Internet and have been alleged to be classified. According to Singh, the US administration is assessing the impact that these photographed documents could produce on the security of the US and its allies and partners.

Reuters has reported the leaked documents could be fake. The documents are related to US and NATO plans to prepare Ukrainian forces for a counteroffensive. Many of the documents that disclose weapon supplies schedules and troops numbers have been posted to such social media as Twitter and Telegram channels.
