WASHINGTON, October 15./TASS/. Word Bank Group President David Malpass hailed as ‘informative’ talks with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Washington on Thursday.
"This afternoon, I was pleased to welcome Russian DPM Alexei Overchhuk to the Word Bank," David Malpass said in a tweet.
"We held informative talks on several issues, including IDA20, comprehensive approaches to debt and debt transparency, energy sector reforms and climate change," he wrote on Twitter.
"President Malpass welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk’s views on a new approach to assessing the business and investment climate across countries," the World Bank reported after their talks.
"President Malpass and Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk also discussed climate change and energy sector reforms," it said.
"President Malpass affirmed the WBG’s willingness to support Russian efforts on greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction and carbon neutrality through its work on a Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR) and other knowledge products," the report went on to say.
Besides, the World Bank president and the Russian deputy prime minister discussed assistance to low-income countries in dealing with the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic. "President Malpass underscored the need for mobilizing financing for low-income countries and welcomed Russia’s active participation in the IDA20 replenishment process," the document said.
"President Malpass and Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk discussed critical global issues including the implementation of the G20 Common Framework. President Malpass underscored the importance of a comprehensive approach to the debt problem, including swifter restructuring and improved debt transparency," the readout said.
The Russian deputy prime minister arrived in the American capital on Wednesday to head Russia’s delegation at the autumn session of Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) in Washington.
