COPENHAGEN, February 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Danish Culture Minister Marianne Jelved, who has been in Sochi since February 15, is encouraged by the festive atmosphere prevailing in the Black Sea resort host of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
“The Olympic Games are unique because they bring the world together when athletes from many different nations and cultures come together and compete under the rules of the Olympic Charter,” she told an Itar-Tass correspondent in an email on Monday.
“During my stay in Sochi I hope to see Danish athletes in action and to support them from the stands,” Jelved said. “My program in Sochi will include curling, super-G and ice hockey.”
“Furthermore, I hope to meet and have a word with some of my Russian colleagues in order to address some of the current political issues concerning human rights that have been subject to much debate in Denmark ahead of the Games,” she added.
The Danish minister will return to Copenhagen on February 18.
