CAS dismisses Russian Olympic Committee's appeal against provisional suspension

The CAS Panel in charge of this matter dismissed the appeal and confirmed the Challenged Decision, finding that the IOC EB did not breach the principles of legality, equality, predictability or proportionality

MOSCOW, February 23. /TASS/. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the Russian Olympic Committee's (ROC) appeal against the provisional suspension imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the press service of the court reported.

"The CAS Panel in charge of this matter dismissed the appeal and confirmed the Challenged Decision, finding that the IOC EB did not breach the principles of legality, equality, predictability or proportionality," the statement said.

According to the document, "The Arbitral Award issued by the CAS Panel is currently subject to a confidentiality review meaning that the parties might request that the Arbitral Award, or certain information contained in it, remain confidential. For this reason, the Arbitral Award will not be published immediately on the CAS website."

The IOC suspended the ROC until further notice on October 12, 2023, following the addition of the Olympic Councils of the Donetsk, Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye, and Kherson regions into the organization. The suspension means that the ROC can no longer serve as a national Olympic committee or receive financing from the Olympic movement.

The parties may appeal to the Swiss Federal Court within 30 days.
