KRASNOYARSK, March 9. /TASS/. Russia has set a new record for the number of medals won at a Winter Universiade.
On Saturday, Russia’s biathlon team took gold in the single mixed relay event at the FISU Winter Universiade taking place in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, which is the 30th gold won by the country’s athletes during the 2019 tournament.
The previous record also belonged to Russia, whose athletes took 29 golds at the 2017 Universiade.
Russia is currently first in the overall medal standings, having won a total of 82 medals, including 30 golds, 30 silvers and 23 bronze. South Korea ranks second and Austria is third.
Krasnoyarsk is hosting the 2019 FISU Winter Universiade on March 2-12.
The Universiade offers 76 sets of medals in 11 sports competitions, which are Alpine Skiing, Curling, Biathlon, Figure Skating, Cross-Country Skiing, Ice Hockey, Snowboard, Short Track Speed Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Bandy and Ski Orienteering.
