A child was returned to Russia from Ukraine through the mediation of Qatar and with the assistance of the Russian President's Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova. The boy met his mother at Vnukovo airport in the Moscow region, according to the TASS correspondent.
The reunion of the mother, Alexandra Zhulina, with her nine-year-old son Nikita took place on Tuesday night. According to her, her son has been in Ukraine since 2019. The boy returned to Moscow on a flight from Istanbul, and upon arrival he was met by an employee - a diplomat of the Qatari embassy.
The press office of Lvova-Belova told TASS that since the beginning of Russia's special military operation, 48 children (from 35 families) have been returned to their families with the help of the Commissioner for Children's Rights and with the participation of the Ukrainian side, international organizations and third-party mediators.
At the end of September, Lvova-Belova spoke about the existence of a communication channel with the Ukrainian authorities to organize work on the transfer of Russian children to the territory of the Russian Federation and Ukrainian children to the territory of Ukraine. At the time she said that the cases of 15 children each were being worked on.
