Putin congratulates Gagloyev on his election as South Ossetia’s president

In the telegram, Putin said he expects that Gagloyev’s activity on this high post will promote "further strengthening of bilateral relations based on the principles of alliance and strategic partnership."

MOSCOW, May 10. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a telegram congratulating Alan Gagloyev on winning the presidential election in South Ossetia, according to the Kremlin website.

In the telegram, Putin said he expects that Gagloyev’s activity on this high post will promote "further strengthening of bilateral relations based on the principles of alliance and strategic partnership."

"Russia, on its part, will continue providing its South Ossetian friends full assistance in order to solve pressing issues in the social and economic development and the protection of national security," the Russian president said in his telegram.

Gagloyev, who is leader of the Nykhas political party, is leading Sunday’s runoff with 54,2% of the vote with 97% of the votes counted, while his rival Anatoly Bibilov, the republic’s incumbent head, has won 43.3% of votes.
