FACTBOX: Developments in Kursk Region: Russian advance, Ukrainian losses

The battlegroup North repulsed 11 enemy counterattacks toward the settlements of Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Malaya Loknya, Nikolayevo-Daryino and Novoivanovka

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Ukrainian forces lost more than 300 servicemen in the Kursk area over the past day, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The enemy has lost a total of more than 30,500 troops since fighting started in the region.

Russian forces prevented an attempt by Ukrainian troops to cross the state border near the Novy Put settlement. Units of the battlegroup North pressed on with their offensive.

Progress of operation to destroy Ukrainian forces

- The battlegroup North repulsed 11 enemy counterattacks toward the settlements of Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Malaya Loknya, Nikolayevo-Daryino and Novoivanovka.

- The battlegroup's units continued the offensive and struck Ukrainian formations in the areas of the settlements of Daryino, Leonidovo, Nykolaevo-Daryino, Novoivanovka and Plekhovo.

- Russian forces prevented an attempt by Ukrainian troops to cross the state border near the Novy Put settlement.

- Strikes by army aircraft and artillery targeted clusters of Ukrainian military personnel and equipment in the Kursk Region.

- Tactical aircraft and rocket forces hit the enemy's assembly areas and reserves in the Sumy Region.

- The operation to destroy Ukrainian formations continues.

Ukrainian losses

- Over the past day, Ukraine lost more than 300 servicemen, four tanks, six infantry fighting vehicles, six armored fighting vehicles, two mortars and 11 motor vehicles. Two Ukrainian servicemen surrendered.

- Since the beginning of hostilities in the Kursk Region, the enemy has lost more than 30,500 troops, 189 tanks, 121 infantry fighting vehicles, 107 armored personnel carriers, 1,094 armored fighting vehicles, 829 motor vehicles, 262 artillery units, 40 multiple launch rocket systems, including 11 HIMARS and six US-made MLRS, 11 anti-aircraft missile launchers, seven reloading vehicles, 59 electronic warfare stations, 12 counter-battery radars, four air defense radars, 26 units of engineering and other equipment, including 13 obstacle-clearing vehicles, one UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle, five armored repair and recovery vehicles, and a command and staff vehicle.

Prosecution of a mercenary

- Investigators opened a criminal case against a mercenary from Georgia who was a part of the Ukrainian force that invaded the Kursk Region, the Russian Investigative Committee said.

- Georgian national Alexy Bibichadze is suspected in absentia of committing such felonies as murder, attempted murder, terrorist attack, illegal possession and carrying of firearms and ammunition, attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer, violence against a public officer, illegal crossing of the Russian state border and mercenarism," the agency said.
