Russian diplomat says Armenia’s government betrays its people by breaking off Russia ties

Maria Zakharova stressed that "it was unfortunate to hear" what Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Armenia's leadership is betraying its people by severing ties with Russia in order to serve the West's goals, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"The incumbent Armenian authorities are seeking to sacrifice the entire array of ties with Russia and other closest allies and partners for the sake of ephemeral bonuses that were used by the European Union and the US to beckon Yerevan. But the thing is that they are not betraying us or their partners, allies, but they are betraying their own people," she said.

Zakharova highlighted that Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s responded to a question from the Todos Noticias news website about the prospect of breaking off diplomatic relations with Russia by saying that he cannot predict the future.

"It's weird. Usually politicians in power don't just predict the future, they create it," Zakharova said. "They can predict trends and say that they will do everything to make sure that, for example, a negative scenario does not materialize. It was unfortunate to hear what he said, especially given the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, which is being celebrated today."
