Moscow values strong cultural, humanitarian ties with Beijing — Russian prime minister

Mikhail Mishustin also congratulated the Chinese leader on the 45th anniversary of the onset of the policy of reform and openness, now being celebrated across China

BEIJING, December 20. /TASS/. Russia values strong cultural and humanitarian ties with China and the development of direct people-to-people contacts will facilitate the strengthening of friendship between the Russian and Chinese peoples, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said during talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

"We value strong cultural and humanitarian ties that unite Russia and China. The Years of [Russian-Chinese Cooperation in] Physical Fitness and Sport have concluded, and in 2024-2025 the Cross-Years of Culture will take place. Developing direct people-to-people contacts, getting to know the unique wealth of history, culture and traditions [of each other’s country] will facilitate the strengthening of the centuries-old friendship between the Russian and Chinese peoples," Mishustin said.

He also congratulated the Chinese leader on the 45th anniversary of the onset of the policy of reform and openness, now being celebrated across China. "I sincerely congratulate you and all of the Chinese people with [the country’s] great achievements in social and economic development, in bolstering China’s authority on the world stage," the Russian premier added.

"Esteemed Mister Chairman, the new year, 2024, is just a short time away. This holiday is very much loved in Russia and it is traditionally celebrated among family and close friends. People sum up the results of the past year and make hopeful plans for the future. I would like to use this opportunity to thank you and all of our Chinese colleagues for good relations and for constructive joint work. I am confident that new, even greater achievements, await us in the coming year. In the lunar calendar, it is the Year of the Dragon, which is one of China’s symbols. I wish you and all of our Chinese friends good health and success in ten thousand things," Mishustin concluded.
