Ukraine's potential admission to NATO to complicate Russia's relations with West — senator

Viktor Bondarev pointed out that the recent statement by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who suggested that Ukraine should be admitted to the alliance without the lost territories, once again confirms the aggressive attitude to destabilize the situation on the international arena

MOSCOW, November 13. /TASS/. Attempts to admit Ukraine to NATO will further complicate relations between the alliance, the West and Russia, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Viktor Bondarev said.

"Any hasty attempts to admit Ukraine to NATO will only further escalate the situation and [complicate] relations between the West, NATO and Russia," the senator wrote on his Telegram channel, adding that Ukraine's accession to NATO "will not bring significant results" for either the West or Kiev.

Bondarev also pointed out that the recent statement by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who suggested that Ukraine should be admitted to the alliance without the lost territories, once again confirms the aggressive attitude to destabilize the situation on the international arena. "It is obvious that the formula for the existence of the collective West is wars and conflicts in the world. Russia will unequivocally respond to such attacks and possible actions with appropriate measures that will only accelerate the collapse of the system of Western values built by the NATO bloc," Bondarev said.

The Guardian reported on November 11 that former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen (in office from 2009 to 2014) believes it is necessary to offer Ukraine to become a member of the alliance, but only within the borders controlled by Kiev.
