ST. PETERSBURG, July 30. /TASS/. Some provisions of the African peace initiative on Ukraine are being implemented, including the prisoner swap, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters.
"The initiative itself, like any peace initiative, is good because it is aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. There are things that are being implemented after our meeting in St. Petersburg a month and a half ago. But there are only ten points in these initiatives. One of these points is the exchange of prisoners, detainees, the solution of family, humanitarian issues related to children," he said.
On May 14, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that African countries were working to persuade Russia and Ukraine to start negotiations. On June 16, the peace mission visited Kiev, where it held talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The next day, the mission was received by Putin in St. Petersburg. The main provisions of the African initiative were not officially disclosed, but Putin noted the proximity of the African initiative and the Chinese plan to settle the situation around Ukraine.
