Kremlin says impossible to revive USSR, sees various alternative ways of integration

Dmitry Peskov recalled Russian President Vladimir Putin's words that "Anyone who doesn’t regret the passing of the Soviet Union has no heart. Anyone who wants it restored has no brains"

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. The Union State of Russia and Belarus is a modern form of integration and not an attempt to revive the Soviet Union, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Izvestia.

He recalled Russian President Vladimir Putin's words that "Anyone who doesn’t regret the passing of the Soviet Union has no heart. Anyone who wants it restored has no brains". "It seems to me that this is probably the most exhaustive explanation of the possible attitude to those who talk about recreating the USSR. It's impossible," the Kremlin spokesman said.

"Another thing is that there are modern forms of integration. They are multidirectional and multi-speed. They exist in the interests of the member states. The most advanced and fastest integration form in the former Soviet Union is the Russia-Belarus Union State," Peskov explained. "But this is in no way a return to the Soviet Union or an attempt to recreate it," he stressed.

Peskov recalled that there were problems with the implementation of the Union Treaty, but then national programs were worked out and began to be dynamically implemented. "This is absolutely in the interests of the people of our two countries. Both Putin and [Belarusian President Alexander] Lukashenko spoke about this. The integration process is taking its course. A lot of positive steps have already been made. There are a lot of achievements. When there will be the Supreme State Council, we'll hear about them (the achievements - TASS) from the two presidents," the Kremlin spokesman concluded.
