Russia, Bolivia embark on unconventional projects such as battling cancer, says envoy

These projects are reported to require special attention and unconventional approaches

MOSCOW, February 8. /TASS/. New economic projects that require special attention and unconventional approaches, are being approved by Russia and Bolivia, Russia’s Ambassador to Bolivia Mikhail Ledenev said in an interview aired by the Rossiya-24 TV news channel on Wednesday.

"There are new projects that have been gaining approval from the Bolivian side for quite a while already. They require special attention and unconventional approaches," he said.

As an example, Ledenev mentioned a project implemented by Russia’s state corporation Rosatom on the construction of the Center for Nuclear Technology Research and Development (CNTRD) in El Alto. As far as the technological level is concerned, the center is one of the most advanced not only in Latin America, but globally as well, the diplomat noted. "The center is important not only scientifically, but also practically in terms of cancer treatment. <…> The issue of tackling cancer-causing problems is very important for the country," he stressed, adding that radio-pharmacological medications will be produced soon that will make it possible to diagnose cancer at very early stages.

The Center for Nuclear Technology Research and Development in El Alto is an innovative project implemented by the Bolivian Agency for Nuclear Energy (ABEN) in cooperation with JSC GSPI (part of Rusatom Overseas). It is one of Bolivia's most crucial healthcare projects. CNTRD, located at an altitude of 4,100 meters above sea level, is unparalleled in the world. Its construction will greatly contribute to the development of science, medicine, agriculture and education in Bolivia, as well as create more than 500 highly qualified jobs for Bolivian citizens.

Rosatom’s First Deputy Director General for Development and International Business Kirill Komarov said in November that the company had completed almost half of the work on the project’s implementation.
