MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. Russia is open to the renewal of contacts between chiefs of general staffs of Arctic states, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said in an interview with the Zvezda TV channel on Wednesday.

"I have told the American colleagues several times that we used to have a wonderful line of communication between chiefs of general staffs of Arctic states. This could be recovered and continue functioning," he said. Antonov reminded that the Arctic is one of the matters that Russia and the US can hold a dialogue on.

"Have a look at what is going on in the media right now. It was reported that the Americans were involved in dropping bombs on the territory of Sweden with the use of their planes in Norway," the ambassador added. "And yet, we are saying that the Arctic and the zone of Arctic states is a zone of cooperation, peace, kindness and economic cooperation."

Earlier, Commander of the Second Fleet of the US Navy Vice Admiral Andrew Lewis informed that the US is concerned over the military aspect of Russia’s activity in the Arctic, despite the fact that Washington admits that Moscow has all grounds to develop activity in the region.
