MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. The Russian film market remains very interesting for foreign copyright holders - as soon as they have the opportunity, they will resume business with Russia, content director for Kinopoisk online movie theater Nikolay Buts said in an interview with TASS.
Earlier, RBC, citing two sources in the media market, as well as a representative of Okko, reported that the largest Russian online cinemas have resumed negotiations with Hollywood film studios on the return of their libraries and access to premiere projects.
As Buts pointed out, over the past few years Kinopoisk has repeatedly managed to negotiate with partners to show foreign new releases - these were regular deals, not just in terms of European or American content, but also content from Korea and Japan. "All this time we tried to maintain contact with those partners who decided to temporarily suspend the sale of rights to Russia. And we have always been fundamentally opposed to the use of foreign content without the permission of the copyright holders. We have always been confident that the Russian market remains very interesting for foreign rights holders, and as soon as they have the opportunity, we will be able to make deals again," he said.
"Kinopoisk has a large and loyal audience of Russian films and TV series. Our colleagues in the market confirm this trend. At the end of 2024, 87% of our subscribers watched Russian content on Kinopoisk. We see that the same users also watch foreign content in our catalog. So, it is important for us to have titles from different countries in our catalog," Buts noted.
