PRETORIA, March 26. /TASS/. Commodity exchange prices of cocoa beans climbed above $10,000 per metric ton for the first time in trading history, SABC radio station reported.
The price per ton of cocoa beans reached as high as $10,080 on the Intercontinental Exchange on Tuesday, the radio station said. The price hike was 134% year on year.
Experts believe that the price pace is kept by reports on huge losses of the cocoa bean harvest with two leading global producers - the Ivory Coast and Ghana. Both countries account for almost 60% of global cocoa beans production. This will lead to the continuing upsurge in prices for chocolate and confectionery groups.
