Rosatom CEO, Hungarian Foreign Minister discuss nuclear cooperation — company

Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjarto discussed further steps to implement the Paks-2 NPP construction project, the press service of the Russian nuclear corporation announced on Tuesday.

"A meeting was held between Alexey Likhachev, Director General of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, and Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary. The parties discussed further steps in the implementation of the Paks-2 NPP construction project, as well as other aspects of multifaceted cooperation in the nuclear sector," the press release says.

At present, general construction work continues on the site of the future Paks-2 station for the construction of auxiliary buildings and facilities. The process of obtaining license documentation for certain types of work and equipment manufacturing has been launched. The main license for the construction of the Paks-2 NPP was issued by the Hungarian regulator in August 2022, according to the press service.

In March, at a meeting with journalists in Brussels, Szijjarto said the country was committed to "implementing the contract signed with Rosatom nine years ago." He noted that Hungary "has no reason to refuse this cooperation."

In early April, General Director of Paks-2 CJSC Gergely Jakli, said in an interview that the participants in the construction of Paks-2 should learn to work under sanctions, although political interference in this project is regrettable.
