Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov appointed CSTO Chief of Staff

MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov has been appointed Chief of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), as follows from a news release of the organization’s secretariat.

The heads of state thoroughly discussed international and regional security, as well as CSTO's activities in the intersessional period.

"Decisions were made on important issues of the CSTO activity, including a package of documents on crisis response," the secretariat said. "A high assessment was given to Belarusian presidency."

Serdyukov was born on March 4, 1962 in Rostov Region. In 2016-2022, he commanded Russia’s Airborne Troops. After that, he led the Russian military group in Syria.

On January 7, 2022, he was appointed head of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Force in Kazakhstan.
