Military-biological activity in Ukraine carried out in violation of BTWC

Sergey Ryabkov recalled that throughout the past year the foreign ministry had been closely cooperating with the parliamentary commission on the probe into the activities of US biolaboratories in Ukraine and with the parliament in general to promote Russia’s interests and priorities in this sphere as well as to strengthen international biological security

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. Military-biological activity in Ukraine was carried out with the United States’ support in violation of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC), Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Tuesday.

"It is obvious to us that military-biological activities on Ukraine’s territory were carried out with the United States’ support in violation of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention," he said at a plenary session of the Russian State Duma, or lower parliament house.

He recalled that throughout the past year the foreign ministry had been closely cooperating with the parliamentary commission on the probe into the activities of US biolaboratories in Ukraine and with the parliament in general to promote Russia’s interests and priorities in this sphere as well as to strengthen international biological security. "We believe that the parliamentary commission’s report will help resolve these multifaceted tasks," he added.
