KIEV, June 24 /ITAR-TASS/. President Pyotr Poroshenko has officially invited Russia to send inspectors to the Special Monitoring Mission of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Ukraine to confirm that Kiev holds its promise to cease fire in the south-east of the country.
Poroshenko announced this during a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday, June 23.
The two leaders discussed the work of the contact group for the implementation of Poroshenko’s peace plan in the south-eastern regions of Ukraine, which includes, among others, former President Leonid Kuchma and the OSCE Secretary-General’s special representative Heidi Tagliavini.
Russian Ambassador in Kiev Mikhail Zurabov has been providing necessary assistance to the OSCE Mission.
Merkel praised the contact group’s work and expressed hope that all sides would exert maximum efforts to achieve peace.
