West plans to destabilize situation in Serbia — Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman

According to Maria Zakharova, the interim self-governance bodies in Pristina, enabled by the United States and the EU, make steps to create intolerable conditions for the Serb population of Kosovo, effectively trying to drive it out of the region

MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. The Western countries are developing plans on destabilization of the situation in Serbia via the "color revolution" scenario and by pressuring the legitimate national authorities, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in her commentary regarding the West’s attempts to destabilize the situation in the Balkan country.

"We view the events in Serbia within the context of the West’s plans to destabilize the situation in the country. Its authorities are being pushed to a threshold where they will have to decide whether to continue their policy for the benefit of their people or to turn on the path of collaboration," the diplomat said in a statement, published on the foreign ministry website.

According to Zakharova, the interim self-governance bodies in Pristina, enabled by the United States and the EU, make steps to create intolerable conditions for the Serb population of Kosovo, effectively trying to drive it out of the region.

"Another egregious case: an attempt to prevent the ‘Serb list,’ the largest regional Serb party, which has long become a target for attacks from Albanian ultra-nationalist ‘prime minister’ Albin Kurti and his accomplices, from taking part in the elections. Judging by the Kosovars’ statements, Kurti plans new inter-ethnic incidents for Christmas holidays, and the responsibility for these incidents is being publicly put on the Serb party and the regional Orthodox community in advance," Zakharova underscored.

She added that these actions are a gross violation of the basic rules and freedoms of people and pose a threat of an abrupt escalation of the situation with the most dire consequences in the region.

"The Western capitals still have a chance to influence their charges in Pristina and to prevent the political massacre over the representatives of the Serb community. […] We decisively support the friendly Serbia and the fraternal Serb people. We demand to stop the intervention in the internal affairs of a sovereign state," the spokeswoman said.
