MOSCOW, April 15. /TASS/. Ukraine's power generation losses over the recent weeks amounted up to seven gigawatts, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said on Monday.
"According to our preliminary estimations, we have lost about seven gigawatts regarding our [power generating] systems. This is a gigantic volume in terms of the power generation," Galushchenko said upon his arrival for the EU energy ministers meeting in Brussels.
The Ukrainian energy minister told Bloomberg on April 6 that the country’s energy industry suffered significant damage in the area of electricity generation and transmission. According to the official, the value of the damage is being verified and could reach billions of dollars.
Earlier, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the chief of staff of the Ukrainian president's office, said that the Kanevskaya HPP, the Dneproges power plant, and the Zmievskaya TPP sustained damage. According to the DTEK energy company, the company lost 80% of its generating capacity, with five out of its six TPPs seriously damaged.
According to estimations of the United Nations, Ukrainian power generation grids produced earlier 37 gigawatts in general, but the figure was down by 19 gigawatts by the fall of 2023, which was twice as low if compared to February 2022.
