Iran supports right of Palestinians to defend against Israeli aggression — diplomat

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs further stated that Iran holds Israel responsible "for the continuation and escalation of violence and atrocities against the Palestinians"

DUBAI, October 8. /TASS/. Iran supports the right of the Palestinian people to defend themselves against the Israeli aggression, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a statement.

"The oppressed Palestinian people’s inalienable right to defend themselves, their land and their sanctities against occupation, aggression, daily violations and organized terror on part of the Zionist regime is a natural and legitimate right," he said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman went on to say that Iran holds Israel responsible "for the continuation and escalation of violence and atrocities against the Palestinians."

On the morning of October 7, rocket attacks were launched at Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Simultaneously, groups of militants infiltrated the territory of Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced they were launching Operation Iron Swords in retaliation for the attack, coming from the Palestinian exclave.

Ismail Haniyeh, the current head of HAMAS's Political Bureau, said the Palestinian attack was launched in retaliation for Israel’s aggressive actions regarding the Al Aqsa mosque in central Jerusalem.
