India reports lowest daily number of coronavirus cases in four months

The country ranks third in the world in terms of the total number of cases, behind the United States

NEW DELHI, July 20. /TASS/. The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported 30,093 new coronavirus cases over the past day, the lowest in more than 120 days (since March 17, when 28,093 new cases were recorded). The Ministry reported on Tuesday on its website, the total number of cases reached 31,174,322.

According to the department, the number of deaths associated with the pandemic reached 374 in 24 hours. The daily death toll was the lowest since March 31, when 354 deaths were reported, bringing the country's total to 414,482.

India ranks third in the world in terms of the total number of cases, behind the United States, and third in mortality - behind the United States and Brazil.

In late December 2019, Chinese officials notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia. On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
