Victory Day is main holiday for Russians, nothing can mar it — Kremlin

MOSCOW, May 6. /TASS/. Victory Day is the main holiday for Russians, and nothing can mar it, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Friday.

"Victory Day is not just a holiday. Victory Day is a sacred day for all Russians, for almost all residents of the former Soviet Union. It is the main holiday that is filled with symbolism, with both a sense of pain for the sacrifices we suffered and a sense of pride for our country and for our victory," Peskov said, answering a question about whether events related to the special operation in Ukraine could overshadow the holiday.

"Nothing will mar it (the holiday - TASS). In terms of national pride, it is very difficult and impossible to overestimate the importance of this holiday," the spokesman concluded.

Speaking about the schedule of the head of state on Victory Day, Peskov said that Vladimir Putin will traditionally take part in the Victory Day parade on May 9. "The president will give a speech and traditionally, at the end of the parade, he will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier," the Kremlin spokesman explained.
