Taliban guarantee security of consular offices, not only Russian ones — envoy

According to Zamir Kabulov, the situation in Mazar-i-Sharif is stable now, which makes it possible to consider the restoration of the Consulate General operation

MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. The Taliban movement (outlawed in Russia) guarantees the security of diplomatic missions, not only the Russian ones, Russian Special Presidential envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said in an interview Wednesday.

"It can happen. We are working on it in the inter-agency format," he said, answering a question when Russian Consulate General in Mazar-i-Sharif might resume its operation.

"Because we must resolve the security issues with guarantees. The Taliban guaranteed the security of diplomatic consular offices, and not only Russian ones, which is proven by action, by the way," Kabulov said.

According to the diplomat, the situation in Mazar-i-Sharif is stable now, which makes it possible to consider the restoration of the Consulate General operation.

"But this is an idea in the making, it has not yet been implemented in concrete steps," he said.

In July, Kabulov told TASS that the Russian Consulate General in Mazar-i-Sharif suspended its operation over the escalation of the situation in northern Afghanistan.
