Russian seaports capacity on the rise, PM says

"Capabilities of inland waterways should also be proactively expanded," Mikhail Mishustin said

MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. The capacity of national seaports has increased significantly, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the Transport of Russia forum.

The capacity of seaports "reached the all-time high figure of 1.36 bln metric tons," the prime minister noted. "Growth continues. It will be above 200 mln metric tons over six years" Mishustin said. "The business requires new specialized terminals for exports of chemical, agricultural, and other products," he added.

"Particular attention should be paid to fifteen harbors comprised in the backbone network," Mishustin stressed. The key ones of them are Elga, Vanino and Vostochny, and also Murmansl because this deep-water port "opens the direct access to the world ocean, bypassing straits," he added.

"Capabilities of inland waterways should also be proactively expanded," the prime minister said.
