MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Russia does not expect hydrocarbons to be abandoned globally by 2050 and the country’s energy balance will reflect this, First Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin said.
"We do not anticipate the complete phase-out of hydrocarbons by 2050 because all countries have the right to develop and it is difficult to imagine that Latin America, Africa, Asia and parts of Europe can be forced to give up cheap and affordable energy sources to further someone else’s goals and ambitions. I have trouble picturing [that]," Sorokin said.
"The share of nuclear power will grow in the Russian energy balance and for renewable sources - [it] could grow to about 10%," the official said. "Certainly, the energy balance will change but it will change within reason. We do not consider it proper to go to extremes," he added.
