ANKARA, September 25. /TASS/. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan believes that the Igdir-Nakhichevan gas pipeline will contribute to providing Europe with energy resources.

On Monday, Erdogan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new gas pipeline that will run from Turkey’s eastern province of Igdir to Sederek in western Azerbaijan.

"The Igdir-Nakhichevan gas pipeline project we have launched will further strengthen our cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sector, and will also contribute to the supply of gas to Europe," he said at a press conference following negotiations with Aliyev. The broadcast was carried out by TRT channel.

According to Erdogan, Nakhichevan "now represents great potential for the development of energy and transport routes" in the context of a logistics corridor from east to west.

"Earlier today we signed agreements on the construction of the Kars-Nakhichevan railway, electricity, and the construction of housing in Nakhichevan. So, we reaffirmed our intentions to develop relations in the fields of logistics, transport, and energy," Erdogan said.
