SEVASTOPOL, April 1. /TASS/. Units of an air defense missile regiment from the army corps of the Black Sea Fleet have switched to field exercises near the Saki and Kacha aerodromes in Crimea, the Fleet’s press office reported on Monday.
"Over 300 anti-aircraft gunners of the air defense missile regiment have started accomplishing a set of combat training missions that involve deploying and taking up firing positons, preparing for opening fire and practicing target reconnaissance," the statement says.
The week-long drills aim to practice the regimental teams’ and batteries’ cohesion in organizing the defense of vital infrastructure facilities against a notional enemy’s air attack with the performance of electronic launches.
Sukhoi Su-24 frontline bombers, Antonov An-26 and Beriev Be-12 planes and naval aviation helicopters are daily involved in the combat teams’ training.
As was reported earlier on Monday, the drills of air defense troops also kicked off in the Krasnodar Region in south Russia for the protection of the Black Sea coastline. More than 1,500 troops from an air defense missile brigade have been engaged in the drills at the Molkino practice range near Krasnodar.
