Austrian leader swears in government coalition of OVP, SPO, NEOS — media

OVP leader Christian Stocker was elected as the new chancellor

BERLIN, March 3. /TASS/. Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen has sworn in the new government of the republic formed by the Austrian People's Party (OVP), the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPO), and the New Austria and Liberal Forum (NEOS), with OVP leader Christian Stocker elected as the new chancellor and the ceremony at the Hofburg Palace broadcast by the APA news agency.

"In accordance with <...> the Constitution, I announce and swear in Christian Stocker as federal chancellor," the head of state said. "I congratulate you on your appointment," he added after Stocker signed the oath of office. SPO head Andreas Babler took the post of vice chancellor, while NEOS party leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger assumed the role of foreign minister. Klaudia Tanner from OVP retained her position as defense minister, and Gerhard Karner of the same party remained interior minister.
