Israel targeted component of Tehran's nuclear program when striking Iran — PM

However, Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that the strike did not halt Iran's nuclear program entirely

TEL AVIV, November 18. /TASS/. Israel attacked "a certain component of the Islamic republic's nuclear program" during its latest strike on Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated during a Knesset (parliament) session.

"It's no secret. The attack hit a certain component of their nuclear program," the parliamentary TV channel quoted the prime minister as saying. Netanyahu did not specify what kind of object was targeted.

However, he acknowledged that the strike did not halt Iran's nuclear program entirely. "The program itself and its potential activation have not been stopped. We delayed its implementation for 10 years, but Iran has made significant progress in uranium enrichment," the prime minister said.

On October 1, the Islamic Republic launched a massive missile attack on Israel in response to the killing of senior officials from the Palestinian movement Hamas, Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to the Israeli side, around 180 projectiles were fired, with most of them being intercepted. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that the attacks on Israel would then only be expanded.

On October 26, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was conducting surgical strikes on military targets in Iran "in response to months of continuous attacks." Israel used an Iraqi area controlled by US troops for the attack, the General Staff of the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces said in a statement. Four Iranian servicemen and one civilian were killed as a result of the attack.
