DUBAI, November 11. /TASS/. Iranian officials have no illusions about the possibility of improving relations with the US after Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election, given the strong pro-Israeli influence in Washington, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy committee, said.
"In all these years, we have not seen much rationality in the actions of the US, as it is heavily influenced <...> [by Israel]. We truly have no optimism regarding negotiations or de-escalating tensions with the US," Rezaei told Borna News. According to him, most believe that Trump's victory poses a major threat to Tehran, although there has been no improvement in relations between the two countries during Joe Biden's presidency either.
Currently, Trump has no additional leverage over Iran; all possible sanctions have already been imposed, the official added. "Americans must alter their approach, otherwise Trump's second term will be no different from the Biden administration," the spokesman emphasized.
Earlier, CNN reported that Trump's victory in the US presidential election could prove to be the greatest challenge for the Islamic Republic of Iran since its founding in 1979. The Wall Street Journal speculates that Trump is likely to revert to his policy of pressure on Iran if he returns to office.
