Ukrainian forces intensify attacks on Energodar, Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant — mayor

Eduard Senovoz expressed readiness for any actions from Ukraine

ENERGODAR, March 19. /TASS/. Ukrainian forces have begun more actively attacking Energodar and the adjacent Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), particularly with drones, in an assault that is much more intensive than last year’s attacks, Energodar Mayor Eduard Senovoz told TASS.

"They have increased the number of attacks on the city this year, especial with drones. There have been hits on administrative buildings. No one was harmed, and this is the most important thing, everything else is a trifle. We eliminate the aftermath of these attacks quickly. People perceive this situation calmly in their daily life; this situation does not affect the life of the city. As for the power plant: a lot of drones fly over the nuclear power plant, sometimes they drop [explosives]. Their activity has increased significantly," the mayor said.

He also expressed readiness for any actions from Ukraine.

"In the past year, we have learned a lot of information about various provocations being prepared against our city or the power plant. I would like to say that the security agencies manage to protect the power plant and Energodar very well. Whatever forces could be concentrated on the other side, our forces will be able to prevent everything," Senovoz underscored.

Located in the city of Energodar, the Zaporozhye NPP is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and has six power units with an aggregate capacity of 6 GW. Russian forces took control of the facility in February 2022. Since then, Ukrainian troops have been periodically shelling both the city and the premises of the ZNPP.
