Egypt proud of joint industrial, energy projects with Russia — al-Sisi

ST. PETERSBURG, June 17. /TASS/. Egypt is proud of the projects in the industry, energy and railway transport sectors implemented jointly with Russia, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) speaking by video link on Friday.

"Egypt is proud of historic relations of a strong friendship with Russia, which practical results are manifested in the implementation of ambitious projects in a variety of economic sectors for the sake of the growth and further progress," he said.

Among the major projects, he highlighted the Ed-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant built by Rosatom on the Mediterrean coast, the Russian industrial area set up in the country and Russia’s part in upgrading and developing the Egyptian railway network.

"Egypt’s participation in SPIEF as a guest is indicative of the special level of economic relations that have prevailed between the two countries over recent years," the president noted. "The forum is taking place in the wake of strategic challenges, which will push to find solutions easing the negative repercussions of the global economic crisis."

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum organized by the Roscongress Foundation is running from June 15 to 18. This year’s forum is dubbed: ‘New Opportunities in a New World’. The SME Forum, the Creative Business Forum, the Drug Security Forum, the SPIEF Junior Dialogue and SPIEF Sport Week are also going to be part of the SPIEF event.
