Chances to get infected with coronavirus after vaccination meager, Health Ministry assures

Russia on August 11 became the first country in the world to have registered a vaccine against the coronavirus, Sputnik V

MOSCOW, January 14./TASS/. The possibility to get infected with coronavirus after vaccination is meager, the Russian vaccine works well, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Health Pavel Pugachev told the Gaidar Forum on Thursday.

"We can assess the efficiency of the vaccine from the point of view of the possibility of getting infected after the first and second vaccination, and we can see now that these figures are insignificant, that the vaccine really works well," he said.

Russia on August 11 became the first country in the world to have registered a vaccine against the coronavirus, Sputnik V, produced by the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology. Sputnik V is a vector-based vaccine. The preparation EpiVacCorona by the state-run research center Vector in October became another Russian vaccine to have obtained registration. It was created on the basis of artificially synthesized elements of the virus structure. The registration of a third vaccine, created by the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Chumakov Federal Center of Research and Development of Immune and Biological Products is expected soon.

The Gaidar Forum is an annual international scientific and practical conference on economics, which has been held since 2010. The event is traditionally co-organized by the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy and the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia (AIRR).
