MOSCOW, June 26. /TASS/. Global gas consumption reached a record 4.3 trillion cubic meters in 2025 and could increase by another 30% by 2050, Gazprom Chief Executive Officer Alexey Miller said during the company’s annual shareholders meeting.
"Global gas consumption reached a new all-time high of 4.3 trillion cubic meters in 2025. By mid-century, this figure will rise by more than 30% to 5.7 trillion cubic meters. New centers of economic growth, which will require more energy, will play a dominant role in shaping demand. By 2050, around 70% of gas consumption will be concentrated in the countries of the Global South," he said.
The International Energy Agency previously estimated global gas demand growth at less than 1% for 2025. It also projected that the rate would accelerate to 2% in 2026, leading to a new consumption record.
