MOSCOW, November 6. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky has condemned the current conditions in Kiev, labeling them as the "worst," with residents and businesses grappling with prolonged electricity and water outages. He has accused city authorities of failing to adequately prepare for the heating season, stating, "People are enduring long disruptions to their electricity and water supply, and the challenges we face are severe. These circumstances reflect a failure to execute essential decisions at the municipal level."
On Tuesday, Kiev's mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, reported significant damage to facilities within the regional energy infrastructure and characterized the city's energy supply situation as "extremely difficult." In response to the relentless outages, local residents took to the streets on Wednesday, blocking three roads in protest. This morning, frustrated citizens once again staged a road blockade due to continued power interruptions.
Kiev has been subjected to rolling blackouts for several days, exacerbated by system overloads that compel emergency cutoffs, leaving residents without power for unpredictable spans of time. The Energy Ministry of Ukraine has declared the situation in the capital and its surroundings as critical, revealing that all power-generating capacity in the city has suffered damage. This lack of electricity has also severely affected the water supply.
Since late 2022, Ukraine has been in the throes of a power supply crisis, a consequence of severe damage inflicted on its energy infrastructure. A state of emergency has been declared across the energy sector, with many regions continuing to endure scheduled blackouts lasting several hours, alongside unpredictable emergency outages on a daily basis.
