WASHINGTON, October 21. /TASS/. US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff intends to discuss proposals for negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine involving Moscow, Washington and Kiev, as well as other participants, during his visit to Russia, Barak Ravid, a correspondent for Axios and Israel’s Channel 12, reported on social media platform X, citing sources.
"The goal is to build on the progress made with Ukraine and Europe, discuss the proposals with Russia, and create a pathway toward direct trilateral and broader multilateral negotiations," a source in the US administration in Washington told the journalist. According to the source, Jared Kushner, the US leader’s son-in-law and special envoy, will not accompany Witkoff in person this time because he has come down with the flu. He will take part in consultations remotely.
The journalist’s source said that the consultations held in Oslo on Tuesday between Witkoff, the Ukrainian delegation and European representatives covered elements of a comprehensive peace framework, including long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, a post-conflict economic recovery plan, and a "broader European security architecture designed to create lasting stability." According to the official, the United States, Ukraine and Europe currently have "strong alignment at the working level" on further steps, as well as "a shared commitment to finding practical solutions to end" the conflict.
Ravid’s source added that Kiev "brought forward new ideas and proposals, which were discussed in detail." The parties also made "meaningful progress in aligning on a coordinated approach to engaging Russia and advancing the diplomatic process."
On October 20, a meeting took place in the Norwegian capital between the Ukrainian delegation led by Vladimir Zelensky, Witkoff and representatives of European countries. A TASS source confirmed that Witkoff is planning to visit Russia on Wednesday.
