European Parliament approves provision of 50 bln euros to Ukraine

The decision was supported by 536 MEPs, while 40 voted against and 39 abstained

PARIS, February 27. /TASS/. The European Parliament (EP) approved the decision of 27 EU countries to provide 50 billion euros of aid to Ukraine, adopted during the February 1 EU summit, the EP press release says.

"Parliament on Tuesday approved the revision of the EU’s long-term budget - the multiannual financial framework (MFF). This includes the €50 billion Ukraine Facility," the press release reads.

This decision was supported by 536 MEPs, while 40 voted against and 39 abstained.

Previously, speaking in an interview for TASS, French MEP Thierry Mariani called the provision of new funds to Kiev insane considering France’s own national debt, which exceeds 3 trillion euros.

During the February 1 emergency summit, EU leaders approved the new aid program for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros. The European Parliament was supposed to vote in favor of the program for it to enter into effect.

The provision of 50 billion euros, if calculated over 4 years, means payments of 1.02 billion euros every month, which means reduction of monthly funding for Ukraine compared to 2023, when Kiev received 1.5 billion euros of budgetary aid every month.
