MINSK, March 8. /TASS/. The National Security Council of Belarus tasked the country’s Defense Ministry with drafting a new military doctrine, according to the council’s decree uploaded to the national database of legislative acts on Wednesday.
"In connection with changes of the military and strategic situation, the defense ministry should start drafting the new military doctrine in cooperation with relevant state agencies and organizations," the document says.
The decree also points at the current "escalation of global geopolitical tensions," which require governmental agencies to focus on measures "that are a part of strategic deterrence and are aimed at protecting independence, territorial integrity, sovereignty and constitutional order from domestic and external threats."
The current military doctrine of Belarus was approved in July 2016.
