KIEV, February 7. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) on Tuesday decided to appoint acting chief of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasily Malyuk to head the body, Rada member Alexey Goncharenko said.

"General Vasily Malyuk has been appointed head of the SBU. The Verkhovna Rada approved the relevant proposal from the Ukrainian president," he wrote on Telegram.

On February 6, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky issued a decree appointing Vasily Malyuk to head the SBU to the Verkhovna Rada. The Ukrainian leader appointed Mayuk as acting SBU chief on July 18, 2022. His predecessor Ivan Bakanov had been dismissed over an allegedly high number of cases of treason by the service’s employees.
