Embassy in Colombia receives no appeals from Russian citizens regarding earthquake — envoy

MOSCOW, August 12. /TASS/. The Russian embassy in Colombia has not received any appeals from Russian citizens regarding the earthquake in the country, and embassy staff are in contact with the authorities to verify information about allegedly affected Russian citizens, Russian Ambassador to Colombia Nikolay Tavdumadze told Izvestia.

"As of the current moment, no appeals have been received on the embassy's hotline from Russian citizens regarding the earthquake that occurred in Colombia on the morning of August 10," the diplomat noted. "At present, embassy staff are in contact with regional authorities to verify information about allegedly affected compatriots. If necessary, the embassy is ready to provide them with the required assistance."

According to Colombia’s El Tiempo newspaper, at least 1,310 people have been injured in the calamity.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck near the city of San Jose del Palmar in the Choco department on August 10.
