Sanctions harming West with no noticeable impact on Russia, French MEP believes

French politician representing the country in the European Parliament, Thierry Mariani, condemned the EU plans to introduce the seventh package of restrictions against Moscow

PARIS, June 26. /TASS/. A member of the European Parliament, Thierry Mariani, has criticized the West’s intentions to impose additional sanctions on Russia which he says have mostly hurt the people of Western countries themselves.

"Surreal!" the French politician tweeted, commenting on the EU’s plans for additional restrictions. "It is indeed the European Union that has already adopted six packages of sanctions against Russia which is whining about the negative impact of its own sanctions on its economy."

Mariani emphasized that the sanctions had caused "no noticeable impact on Russia."

At a meeting in Kiev with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and French President Emmanuel Macron in mid-June, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky handed over to the European leaders proposals on the EU’s seventh package of sanctions against Russia, including a gar embargo.
