Lukashenko slams use of nuclear weapons as unacceptable

The Belarusian president noted that in this case, the globe can be torn from its orbit

MINSK, May 5. /TASS/. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that the use of nuclear weapons is unacceptable, according to his interview with the Associated Press (AP) news agency, in which he answered a question about the hypothetical possibility of using nuclear weapons in case of a protracted military conflict in Ukraine.

"I absolutely believe that the use of nuclear weapons is unacceptable, also because it is near us. Not exactly here, but not across the ocean like the United States," Lukashenko said, according to a fragment of the interview cited by the BelTA news agency on Thursday. The president pointed out that such developments are generally unacceptable, "our globe can be torn from its orbit, and we will fly away to the unknown."

As for Russia's actions, Lukashenko said: "Whether Russia can or can't [use nuclear weapons] - you have to ask the Russian leadership this question." At the same time, the Belarusian president believes that Vladimir Putin does not want a global clash with NATO.
