Special envoys for Afghanistan from US, Russia, China, EU to hold talks on March 21-22

US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad will hold consultations with Russian, Chinese and EU diplomats on March 21-22 in Washington

WASHINGTON, March 21. /TASS/. US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad will hold consultations with Russian, Chinese and EU diplomats on March 21-22 in Washington, the press service of the US State Department said on Wednesday.

"Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad will host his counterparts Presidential Special Representative Ambassador Zamir Kabulov of Russia, Special Envoy Ambassador Deng Xijun of China, and Special Envoy Ambassador Roland Kobia of the European Union at the Department of State for talks on March 21 and 22," the US State Department said.

"Discussion topics include: international support for the Afghan peace process, the role each party can play in bringing an end to the war, and progress to date in peace talks," the press service added.

Kabulov said earlier said that consultations with Khalilzad are planned for March 21-22 in Washington. Kabulov noted that he expects to talk about latest US contacts with representatives of the Taliban movement (outlawed in Russia).

The Russian diplomat last met with Khalilzad on February 22 in Ankara. The sides discussed preparations for the next round of consultations on Afghanistan in the Moscow format.
