A rematch between the same two squads is scheduled for April 8

MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. The Russian national women’s football team defeated Ecuador 4-0 in their friendly match played in Turkey on April 4.

For Russia, goals were scored by Nadezhda Smirnova (penalty shot on the 29th minute), Anna Belomytseva (38th minute), Veronika Kuropatkina (40th minute) and Marina Fyodorova (76th minute).

A rematch between the same two squads is scheduled for April 8 with kick off at 6:00 p.m. Moscow time (3:00 p.m. GMT).

Russia’s football ban

The International Association Football Federation (FIFA) announced on February 28, 2022 that the Russian national team and all professional clubs representing the country were barred from taking part in FIFA tournaments.

In turn, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) made a similar decision in regard to the Russian national football team’s participation in UEFA tournaments.

Both FIFA and UEFA cited Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine as grounds for their respective bans on Russian teams’ participation in competitions.
